DOUG JARDINE
JARDINE CONSTRUCTION
JC LUXURY HOMES
WHAT SERVICES DO YOU OFFER?
Jardine Construction has two divisions: our luxury home division focuses on custom design build projects, while our renovation division is dedicated to luxury resort renovations.
WHAT GEOGRAPHIC AREAS DO YOU SERVE?
We focus in the Park City, Wasatch Back, and Summit County areas.
HOW DO YOU KEEP UP-TO-DATE ON CONSTRUCTION TRENDS AND TECHNIQUES?
The Jardine Construction team regularly participates in continuing education opportunities to learn about trends and techniques that will benefit our clients. As a member of local and national builders’ associations for many years, I continue to be inspired by the opportunity to engage in those organizations and share professional best-practices with other builders, so that we can pass that expertise on to our clients.
WHEN DID YOU KNOW THAT YOU WANTED TO GO INTO CONSTRUCTION? WHAT MOTIVATED YOU?
My father was an engineer and was involved in building major industrial projects, so I was exposed to construction from an early age. I started working for a contractor myself early in my working life before pursuing an education in business and ultimately developing my own construction projects.
WHAT SPECIALTIES DO YOU HAVE IN-HOUSE?
Our carpentry team is exceptional and includes a master framer; we also pride ourselves on the exterior packages that we do in-house.
WHAT IS A RECENT PROJECT THAT YOU ARE ESPECIALLY EXCITED ABOUT?
Every project is unique in terms of location, design team, and the great clients we work with; all of our projects have been very rewarding. Recently, we finished a complete renovation of a space on Main Street in historic Old Town, which was an incredible opportunity.
WHAT MAKES THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN GOOD CONSTRUCTION AND GREAT CONSTRUCTION?
When we talk about construction, we tend to focus on the architecture, products, and design of the items you see and touch. However, in my view, great construction is defined by the work of a talented team inspired to collectively accomplish their client’s vision—to build their dream.
WHAT WORDS DO PEOPLE USE TO DESCRIBE YOUR WORK?
Words that come up often are: personalized and fun. Our clients appreciate the relationships we prioritize, which make for a fun and rewarding process for everyone.
WHAT IS THE MOST EXCITING NEW PRODUCT OR DEVELOPMENT IN YOUR FIELD?
I’m excited about the new online construction project management tools. We are seeing several options being developed, which I believe make the designing and building process easier for both the client and contractor.
WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT WORK?
I have always enjoyed the process of building, but especially the process of creating a team for each project. Once we have our team and each member has a good understanding of the client’s vision, each person is able to take ownership and excel in their field.
IF YOU WEREN’T IN CONSTRUCTION, WHAT WOULD YOU BE DOING?
I would love to be managing or coaching an NFL or NBA team.
WHAT DO YOU LISTEN TO WHILE YOU WORK?
I always have an audio book playing as I make my rounds from site to site.
DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE SPORT OR RECREATIONAL ACTIVITY?
Our family loves to play on the water, and Lake Powell is a favorite place to visit. I feel transformed when I’m on the lake—it holds some of my fondest childhood memories and now my greatest memories with my family.
LAST BOOK YOU READ THAT YOU WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND?
The Glorious Cause by Jeff Shaara, which describes the origins of the American Revolution. The book helped me understand and appreciate why we should respect our country, the process of revolution, and especially our flag.
MOST RECENT EMBARRASSING MOMENT?
I wiped out hard on a Segway at a builders’ meeting in Atlanta— my wife said my last words were, “I’m going to see how fast I can make this go down this hill!”

RANDY PANKOW
TOPMARK FLOOR & DESIGN
WHAT SERVICES DO YOU OFFER?
If you can think of a floor product, chances are we carry it. Popular choices in our market include solid hardwood, pre-finished engineered wood, laminate, luxury vinyl planking (LVP), carpet, carpet tile, and stonelook tile—and if we don’t have it, we will find a way to get it for our customers.
WHAT GEOGRAPHIC AREAS DO YOU SERVE?
Ninety-five percent of our customers are in Wasatch and Summit counties. We have installed at Empire, Tollgate Canyon, Midway, Red Ledges, Browns Canyon, and everywhere in between. That said, some customers who are looking to only buy product find us from as far away as Idaho Falls and the far reaches of Wyoming.
WHAT IS THE PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND OF TOPMARK OWNERS AND STAFF?
Jeff McKinnon has been installing floors of all kinds for more than 30 years, working in commercial projects in the Bay Area before making his way to Park City, and Randy Pankow has been installing flooring in the area for years. Having owned my own design business for ten years and flipping several area homes, I love contributing to the design process and working with customers to choose products.
WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
It may sound clichéd, but a happy customer is the best reward. And we appreciate the entire range of people and stories that come through our doors: the family with the new baby that comes in every few weeks for a year before they come to common ground with their final flooring decision; the local guy you help select 100 square feet of flooring for his Airstream trailer; the couple who have been visiting Park City for 20 years, just bought a condo, and were referred to us by their new neighbor. Referrals are especially meaningful because it means you did the job right.
HOW DO YOU SEE YOUR FIELD CHANGING IN THE NEXT FIVE TO TEN YEARS?
I feel like there is going to be a continued movement toward sustainability and long-term design solutions that are more environmentally friendly and represent quality over disposability.
WHAT DOES YOUR TYPICAL PROCESS INVOLVE AS YOU WORK WITH A CLIENT?
Our process is dependent on each unique customer and their needs. Some have a very clear concept of what they are looking for before they walk in the door, while others might be just starting to think about what they require and are thrilled to find the expertise and assistance they need to get the project rolling. DO YOU HAVE ANY FAVORITE PRODUCTS OR UNIQUE SERVICES?
I would say our custom stain and finish projects set us apart. Jeff is a true artist when it comes to stain, and he works tirelessly to get the effect a customer is searching for.
WHAT TRICKS OF THE TRADE HAVE YOU LEARNED OVER THE YEARS?
Be open to things you have not considered before, and pay attention to what you are drawn to visually. WHAT IS IT YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT YOUR LINE OF WORK?
We really enjoy seeing the positive transformation of spaces and building relationships with customers and with our team.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE SEASON, AND WHY?
The old adage in Park City goes, “You come for the winter, and stay for the summer.” I’d say that’s true for our team. Who can resist skiing all winter and enjoying great temps, no bugs, amazing scenery, and trails to explore right out your back door in the summer and shoulder seasons?
WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT LIVING AND WORKING WHERE YOU DO?
The tight-knit community and connection in Park City is just mind-blowing. I love that a random customer will come in and in the course of a conversation that began around flooring, you’ll discover that you were neighbors in 1996 or your kids were on the same soccer team in second grade or you actually go to the same gym or yoga class.
YOU GET WEAK IN THE KNEES OVER?
I’m a sucker for cute older couples taking a stroll, and the sweet gesture of a man who will carry his wife’s purse—you know that couple has been together through thick and thin and are still in love.
WHAT’S YOUR IDEA OF A GREAT GETAWAY?
Rafting the Grand Canyon! Nature and its elements have always inspired me, and getting off the grid is refreshing.

Current trends in design— specifically modern contemporary—are in line with our expertise; that’s our niche. We’ve been creating furniture and cabinets in this style for years, so we are embracing this emerging trend.
DESCRIBE YOUR PROCESS—HOW DO YOU WORK WITH CLIENTS, CONTRACTORS, DESIGNERS, AND ARCHITECTS?
We plan for an initial consultation, first, which entails meeting with clients, looking at the space, and understanding their vision. We want to be sure we have a really good sense of what they want, what they are currently lacking, and what their goals are. From start to finish, our clients come first.
