Perfectly Covered
by Lori Currie
Window treatments are the workhorse of modern décor. They provide privacy, block glare, conserve energy, and add a layer of texture and softness. The perfect window covering choice can enhance the overall aesthetic of a room: patterned draperies or natural woven shades can add depth and create a focal point, whereas a sheer drape provides a soft layer that blocks harsh light. But, when trying to decide between the myriad options in shades or drapes, decision fatigue can plague even the most design-savvy among us. That’s why it’s important to seek out the expertise of the pros.
“Custom window treatments—draperies, shades, and blinds—shouldn’t be an afterthought but an important part the overall project design,” says Clint Olson, owner of Park City Blind & Design. Founded in 1995, Park City Blind & Design is the established leader in high-end custom window treatments; they also curate upholstery and bedding. Their footprint now extends to communities all over the Mountain West, with design studios in both Park City and St. George. “We prefer to get involved at the very early stages of a project,” says Olson. “That way we can discuss pre-wiring for any motorized window treatments and correct framing needs for concealed shades and hanging draperies. We enjoy collaborating with contractors, designers, and architects to help create the best possible results.”
With custom window treatments, the options are endless. Park City Blind & Design has selected some of their favorite treatments to showcase here.

Drapery
“With its elegant and flowing fabric, drapery has the remarkable ability to completely transform the look and feel of a room,” says Olson. “Beyond its functional purpose of providing privacy and blocking out light, drapery has the power to bring softness and warmth to any space. It can also be motorized for the ultimate luxury.”

Roman Shades
“Roman shades can add a touch of elegance and sophistication to any space with their clean lines and smooth tailored appearance,” says Olson. “Whether in a bold pattern or subtle color, these window treatments effortlessly enhance the overall aesthetic of a room, adding both style and functionality.”

Woven Wood Shades
“Woven wood shades offer a beautiful and natural look, adding texture to the space,” says Olson. “Made from sustainable materials such as bamboo, grasses, and reed, these shades are an eco-friendly choice that contributes to sustainable living and brings a touch of nature indoors.”

Cellular Shades
“Cellular shades offer several benefits including energy efficiency, light control, and privacy,” says Olson. “The unique design of the honeycomb cells acts as a natural insulator, helping keep the home warm in the winter and cool in the summer.” Additionally, the top-down, bottom-up feature allows for versatile light control, allowing homeowners to enjoy natural light while maintaining their privacy.
EXAMPLES:
1} Cellular shades are fantastic for unusually shaped windows. They also have a small stacking space and fit tight to the sides of the windows, which reduces light gaps.
2} The top-down, bottom-up feature on these cellular shades allows natural light to come in while still providing privacy and reducing glare.
3} In a room that receives a lot of natural light, cellular shades are thermally efficient and can help insulate the windows, whether you are trying to keep the heat in or out.
4} With a variety of colors, control options, and light filtering choices, you can’t go wrong with cellular shades.
