THROUGHOUT THE GALLATIN VALLEY, BUSINESSES ARE TUCKED AWAY IN OFF-THE-BEATEN PATH LOCATIONS, BUSINESSES YOU MAY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF. WHJ HAS DISCOVERED NICHE-MARKET COMPANIES AND GOTTEN TO KNOW THEIR RESPECTIVE OWNERS. IN BOZEMAN’S NORTHEAST BREWERY DISTRICT , YOU’LL FIND VANTAGE DESIGN’S SHOWROOM AND JADE MILLER, A CURATOR OF LUXURY BEDDING, LINENS, AND DECOR.

WHAT SERVICES DO YOU OFFER?

We offer custom pillow manufacturing and bedding and bath packages for interior designers, homeowners, property managers, and hospitality companies. Our design center has designer linen samples, and we also offer interior design services.

What geographic area do you serve?

We serve the communities of southwest Montana including Bozeman and Big Sky, but we also work with homeowners, design firms, and furniture showrooms nationwide.

Do you have any special certifications or specialties?

I have an art degree, and a BFA in Interior Design with almost 15 years of design experience. I would also consider myself a professional pillow stuffer, going on five years.

I have worked in the field of interior design for almost 15 years now, everything from aviation interiors, commercial and residential interiors, showrooms with design centers, and now textiles and soft goods.

When did you know that you wanted to go into this field?

I am in an ongoing love affair with textiles, and I wanted to center my whole career around them. After years of working on interior design projects, I realized there was an overwhelming amount of textile waste in the industry, and I wanted to do something to minimize that. Our pillows are handmade only using up-cycled designer fabrics, and so, not only do I get to work with textiles every day, but I also get to save textiles from going into our local landfill.

“My priority is to create inspiring, luxury home goods while leaving a gentle footprint on the environment. I believe the spaces we live in should reflect both who we are and the values we hold—beauty, comfort, and care for the world around us.

– JADE MILLER FOUNDER/OWNER VANTAGE DESIGN

What inspires you?

Historic architecture and artwork, vintage textiles, and spending time with my family or in nature.

How do you see your field changing in the next five to ten years?

I am seeing a higher demand of people interested in surrounding themselves with more natural fibers instead of manmade fibers because of their health benefits.

Describe your process—how do you work with homeowners and designers?

We work a lot with designers, making custom pillows for their clients’ homes and assisting them with compiling luxury bed and bath packages, while offering procurement services as well as laundering and labeling. We also work directly with homeowners, going room-by-room and pulling together design schemes for their bedrooms and bathrooms. Every detail is addressed down to a single custom pillow sitting in an accent chair. We can be really involved in the process, or as hands-off as the client desires.

What other specialties do you have in-house?

Product education. We aspire to be your pillow, bedding, and bath textile experts. We aim to give our clients knowledge of textiles that are not just beautiful, but ones that will last and have an impact on their overall health.

We also offer full-scope interior design services; whether you are looking to upgrade a single bedroom or complete a brand-new home, our team of designers can assist you along the way.

What project are you the proudest of?

We just wrapped up a 250 custom pillow project with a design firm based out of Jackson Hole. That was the largest volume of pillows we have ever made for a single project. And to date, we have saved over five miles of designer fabric from going into the Logan, Montana, landfill.

Do you have favorite products you prefer or are known for?

We are known for our “Swiss Cross Pillows.” We apply a leather or hair-on-hide Swiss Cross to the center-fronts of pillows. Our mountain clients love to place those in bunk rooms, or wherever they are looking to add a more playful pop to a room.

What do you enjoy most about your line of work?

I get to design every single pillow we manufacture, and I love that! I also love figuring out the perfect combination of textiles for our clients, creating the most inviting bedscape, or the perfect combination of pillows.

If you weren’t in your field, what would you be doing?

Hands down, I would be a florist. I appreciate that flowers are simply here to delight us and be beautiful.

What places in the world do you find most inspirational and why?

All of Europe and its old architecture. I cannot get enough of the layers, textures, and the history of buildings. They all bring me so much inspiration!

What’s on the top of your list as a great getaway?

I love that I can hop in the car and be in Jackson Hole in just under four hours. I have a lot of family history there and it always feels good for my soul to drive down there during the shoulder seasons. That’s when it becomes a sleepy mountain town again, and nothing beats its quiet serenity.
