What services do you offer?

JHID offers full-service residential and commercial interior design. From conceptual design to space planning, CAD drawings to custom furnishings, we work on all projects from concept to completion.

Do you have any special certifications or specialties?

I am an NCIDQ (National Council for Interior Design Qualification) certified designer as well as a professional member of ASID.

What other specialties do you have in-house?

I have two full-time project managers and one design assistant/purchaser who all hold degrees in interior design. Having such a knowledgeable and reliable team enables us to respond to an architect’s, a builder’s, and a client’s needs quickly and efficiently. My awesome team makes me feel like I can be four places at once, which is something our clients and I really value! I also love the positive attitude and fresh perspectives they bring to the business; (I believe) I can speak for all of us when I say we have a really good time doing our jobs. Building or remodeling a house should be fun, and we want our clients to share that mindset throughout the process.

When did you know that you wanted to be a designer and what motivated you?

Working in a creative field runs in my blood. I grew up surrounded by wood samples and stains, and the project sketches from my father’s custom cabinet business. I took the passion and business sense I gained from working closely with him to the academic world when I began my interior design program. While I was still in school, I had the opportunity to work with an amazing mentor and the field experience I gained really sealed the deal for my love of design.

What inspires you?

In a word: cities. Living in a mountain town, I’m surrounded by the outdoors and rustic aesthetics. While I wouldn’t trade my life here for anything, I think stepping away from our Valley allows me to see urban spaces with “new eyes” and to be inspired by the endless textures, forms, and materials you can find within them. I frequently travel to High Point Market, as well as The San Francisco and Seattle Design Centers, to keep apprised of new products.

What do you enjoy most about helping people create a home or business that reflects their lifestyle?

Using a little psychology and a lot of creativity! I love establishing a connection with my clients early on in the process and using that understanding along with good old-fashioned intuition to bring products, finishes, and furnishings to the table that they love (and sometimes even manage to surprise them with what they will like.)

What project(s) are you the most excited about right now?

That’s an easy one! I’m finally starting construction on my own home, which has been a long time in the works. It’s more of a challenge than you would think, mostly because of the limitless opportunities it gives me to experiment. I think it’s any designer’s ultimate dream (aside from working with an infinite budget!).

What is the difference between good design and great design?

Good design is thoughtful and practical. Great design is innovative, functional, and beautiful all tied up into one clean package.

What word(s) do people use to describe your work?

Creative, the result of good communication and attention to detail, contemporary, innovative, a good blend of the left and right brain.

Is there an interior designer or an interior design that you most admire and why?

Vicente Wolf consistently delivers creative, artistic, and unique spaces. I always appreciate his work when I see it published.

What is sure to make you laugh?

My daughters, Sophie (7) and Vivian (3 1/2) make me laugh every day.
