Lindsey Bontecou didn’t intend to follow in her father’s construction footsteps. As a kid in Jackson, she watched her dad, Steve Bontecou, build high-quality homes throughout Teton County. And though she had fond memories of her childhood in the Mountain West, she left for the greener—and saltier—pastures of California. As it often goes for kids raised in a family business, life eventually brought her back to Jackson where today she’s leading the second generation of excellence at Bontecou Construction.

Lindsey recounts a happy childhood when her dad’s work was indistinguishable from the family’s life. “Construction was a regular part of my childhood. I was always on job sites, and at home we lived in a constant state of remodeling. Even though I never thought I’d end up in the industry myself, building is evidently in my blood,” she remembers. After college, Lindsey moved to California and found herself working as an administrator at a construction firm. “That entry-level job turned into a launch pad pretty quickly. They had me help out on a couple builds early on, and before I knew it, I was managing entire projects.”

Simultaneously, Lindsey and her now-husband, Erin, started building a rustic barn-style home in Northern California. “I had an immediate comfort level with that project. What I thought was a hobby turned into a career,” she says. Her personal and professional experiences in California led to Lindsey moving back to Wyoming where she officially joined the Bontecou team in 2014.


DELIVERING ON CONSISTENT QUALITY & DURABILITY

Just over a decade after returning to Jackson, Lindsey became p resident of Bontecou Construction. Bontecou’s portfolio includes almost 45 years of high-quality custom homes ranging from traditional log structures to cutting-edge contemporary estates. Within the wide variety of project scopes and styles, Lindsey notes a lasting consistency. “Being in business for this amount of time gives us a long view of the industry. Bontecou has provided consistent service no matter what trends come and go,” she says. Jackson’s market is full of innovative professionals and over the years Bontecou has maintained relationships with the area’s most sought-after architects, subcontractors, and designers. Bontecou’s steady reputation combined with long-term partnerships ensures that high-end products are delivered year after year.

One of Bontecou’s recently completed projects is Skyhouse, an 8,200-square-foot kt814 designed home. Skyhouse’s expansive skyline views blur the boundaries between indoor and outdoor living accomplishing the feeling of infinite space. With the building boom happening in ski resort communities all over the West, building things that last sets a standard that contrasts the quick-build mentality. While the building industry itself has seen a lot of changes and innovations in the decades between Snake River Estate and Skyhouse, both showcase a mastery of craftsmanship and details. Snake River Estate’s massive timber structure received the American Wood Council’s top award in 1993, and 30 years later, it is as sturdy and impressive as it was then. Skyhouse showcases clean lines and a minimalist aesthetic that blends Old World features with modern design touches. Lindsey has no doubt that visiting Skyhouse 30 years from now will demonstrate the same feeling of timeless quality no matter what styles dominate the market then.


STYLES CHANGE BUT THE HIGHEST STANDARDS REMAIN

From Steve’s earliest days to current operations with Lindsey at the helm, design styles have come and gone, and construction materials have evolved drastically. But the core values and leadership at Bontecou Construction remain the same. “Our focus has always been on the quality of work regardless of size or style. It’s about assembling the best team for each individual client and delivering the highest standards of quality and efficiency for each project,” says Lindsey.

As for the future of Bontecou Construction, there’s a familiar scene playing out that is reminiscent of Lindsey’s childhood. “My son has been visiting job sites since he was one week old. He loves being on-site, talking to the crew and pretending to operate the equipment.” Will a similar trajectory play out for Lindsey’s son, where his life will lead him to a different industry and then back again? “Who knows,” she says with a smile. “But for now, he’s into it.” No matter what happens as Jackson Hole continues to grow, Bontecou Construction will always be a valued partner for a community building high-quality homes.

EARLY INSPIRATIONS OF CREATIVITY AND COLOR

Rohn Price was an accomplished architect in Richmond, Virginia, when his daughter Alison started identifying traits of the trade. “When my dad came home from work, I’d notice that his hands were covered in marker ink. The more colors, the busier his day had been,” remembers Alison. She was inquisitive and absorbed how happy he was recounting the events of the day that led to his artfully decorated skin. “To me, that looked like the best job in the world. Talking to people, solving problems, and drawing all day. The mix of creativity and conversation seemed magical.” At the age of 14, Alison started helping Rohn on the weekends. She was digitizing his drawings, helping to field-measure homes, and perhaps most importantly, witnessing the conversations between architect and client. “Watching him translate people’s stories into space was what hooked me. I realized that architecture wasn’t just about drawings or walls, it was about people,” says Alison.

After getting her Bachelor of Arts in Architecture from University of North Carolina-Charlotte, Alison earned her Master’s of Architecture from Montana State University-Bozeman. Her childhood in the Appalachian Mountains primed her for adulthood in the Rockies, and she fell in love with the West. Alison moved to Jackson and spent nearly a decade working for two premier firms, CLB Architects and Berlin Architects. When the time came to set out on her own, Alison’s firm had virtually named itself. “My dad’s firm in Richmond was called Price Studio, so Price West is the next chapter of our story. It’s the same foundation, just set against a different landscape.” Now in its sixth year, Alison has fully embraced her leadership role and credits her dad’s early influence. “My methods and fundamentals of design remain the same. The way my dad taught me at the age of 14 is still the way I approach every project,” she says. Price West has a growing portfolio across Teton County, greater Wyoming, Idaho, and Colorado, with a variety of new build and renovation projects.


PRICE WEST TRANSFORMS CONCEPTS INTO REALITIES

One recently completed renovation project is Wabi-Sabi Ranch in Victor. Alison dove headfirst into the Japanese concept of wabi-sabi, finding beauty in the imperfect and impermanent. This existing structure—a gambrel roofed barn built in 1997—provided unlimited potential for reimagining. Together with the owners/builders, Alison delivered a three-story, 6,275-square-foot luxury dwelling that blends seamlessly into the rustic landscape. “The role of an architect is part designer, part caregiver. I help people imagine how they’ll live, gather, and grow in their spaces,” says Alison. This project highlighted several qualities that Alison loves about the area. “Our building sites in the Teton Region are so impressive. The wind, the light, and the land itself gives us so much information about how people will live within a space. On this project we integrated corrugated metal and reclaimed barn wood to blend utility and decor,” she says. Wabi-Sabi Ranch embraces perfectly imperfect qualities where balance and proportion are primary considerations. Its skylights mirror the uneven light streaming through an aspen grove; its floor plan meanders without need of traditional shapes or pathways where typical square rooms do not exist.

As Alison’s practice continues to grow, her roots stay firmly planted in classical American styles where controlled, symmetrical brick structures are common. “I grew up embracing the charm of historical architecture, and I approach all projects with a balanced view of the old and the new. I’m always observing how structures can adapt over time where rooms shift, families expand, and stories layer in. That sense of continuity is still at the heart of how I design today.” she says. Alison’s process involves balancing symmetry and control with materials and unlimited possibilities.

The conversations where things begin to take shape were modeled for Alison by her father. His primary practice was designing corporate commercial structures, and his residential design work happened on the side. These days at Price West, Rohn proudly wears the title of over-qualified and over-experienced intern, and father and daughter’s collaborative Concept Design phase includes the same Color Dance they’ve been doing for decades. “Each color represents a room or a function, and they move, interact and shift until it feels just right. It’s pure creativity where two generations are sketching possibilities together, guided by curiosity, trust and joy,” says Alison.

FIRM FOUNDATIONS, UNLIMITED POSSIBILITIES

From her earliest days in the Appalachian Mountains to her current life in the Rockies, Alison embraces the full experience of imagining a space. From bricks to stone, straight lines to curved paths, it’s about connection, movement, and appreciation of one’s surroundings. The driving force behind Price West Architecture is summed up in Alison’s acknowledgement of firm foundations. “Our work is building a better future upon foundations of the past. And for me, foundations are personal and professional. I learned the foundational discipline of architecture mostly from my dad, and I honor those roots while creating my own voice in the Mountain West. Now that foundational legacy is evolving. My dad’s work moved people efficiently through space; mine helps them belong within it,” says Alison.

A passion that began a generation ago is driving creativity and design in Jackson’s residential building industry today. Alison Price and Price West Architecture focus on the relationship clients have with their spaces, ensuring that connection and value will endure for generations to come.
