ADMIT IT, YOU HAVE AN INQUIRING MIND, AND YOU WANT TO KNOW ABOUT THE TEAM DESIGNING YOUR DREAM HOME. WE UNDERSTAND THE INCLINATION. SO WE DECIDED TO BRING YOU SHOP TALK CONVERSATIONS WITH LOCAL SUN VALLEY PROFESSIONALS.

WHAT SERVICES DO YOU OFFER?

We offer full service interior design, from selection of finishes and fixtures, flooring and tile. We do space planning and floor plans, finish work and custom cabinetry design, as well as full furnishing. We also incorporate LEED principals and eco friendly design whenever possible.

WHAT GEOGRAPHIC AREA(S) DO YOU SERVE?

We work in the Wood River Valley, the Mountain West, and California.

DO YOU HAVE ANY SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS OR SPECIALTIES?

Erika is a LEED Green Associate and a member of the American Society of Interior Designers.

WHAT INSPIRES YOU?

Erika is inspired by classic architecture and historic buildings. When you look back in time, I like observing what forms, colors, or unique details people incorporated into their homes. Those clues offer a tangible link to the past, and I am always inspired to be surrounded by it. Being from Dallas, Rosemary was able to be around some inspiring people in the design world. Cathy Kincaid is at the top of my list, not only because I had the pleasure of working for her, but also because the way she is able to layer patterns is truly remarkable. All of my interior design peers inspire me daily.

HOW DO YOU SEE DESIGN CHANGING IN THE NEXT FIVE TO TEN YEARS?

We are already seeing a huge shift in the utilization of tools like AI in the design process, whether to assist in business processes or to help with visualization on the client end. We see that influence growing even more in the coming years.

WHAT PROJECT(S) ARE YOU MOST EXCITED ABOUT RIGHT NOW?

We have a few new builds with clients from out of state who love color and pattern, which has given us an opportunity to branch into some more exciting materials and finishes.

DO YOU HAVE FAVORITE MATERIALS, FABRICS, PATTERNS, OR DESIGN PRINCIPLES OR STYLES YOU PREFER OR ARE KNOWN FOR?

We don’t have a hallmark style, as we design specifically to suit each clients’ architecture and personality, but we are known for a refined aesthetic that is both comfortable and durable. We pride ourselves in selecting pieces and finishes that will last the test of time, not just because they are durable but also because they will outlast passing trends.

WHAT MAKES THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN GOOD DESIGN AND GREAT DESIGN?

Good design checks all of the boxes; great design goes above and beyond and considers every detail and how pieces will not only fill a space but also how the user will interact and experience that space.

WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT HELPING PEOPLE CREATE A HOME OR BUSINESS THAT REFLECTS THEIR LIFESTYLE?

We love the idea of home. The feeling you get when you walk in the door and you are in your sanctuary, your safe place. That is where our name comes from: Boden embodies the concept of finding refuge and safety, a Scandinavian word meaning shelter or dwelling. At Studio Boden we are passionate about sharing the spirit of home for each of our clients.

HOW DID YOU GET YOUR START?

While studying design in college both of us worked for well known interior designers. Erika worked for Jamie Drake in New York City, and Rosemary worked for Cathy Kincaid in Dallas.

DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE SPORT OR RECREATIONAL ACTIVITY, AND WHAT DO YOU ENJOY ABOUT IT?

Rosemary: I love to ride my horse, Elvis. Being able to go ride him after work is such a lovely break from the hustle and something I am so lucky to be able to do.

IF YOU COULD OWN A PIECE OF FINE ART, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

Erika: I love the work of Josh Young, he is now based in Washington D.C. and I love his blend of Old World elements married with bold, modern day techniques.

WHY DO YOU LOVE LIVNG HERE?

Killarney: Living and working in Sun Valley is such a fluid and fulfilling experience. The community here is incredibly supportive, and I love how many female led businesses there are to collaborate with. It creates a really inspiring, entrepreneurial energy. The lifestyle is also a huge plus; being able to ski or go for a run in the middle of the day brings so much balance to my life. As a mom of two young kids, I’ve found Sun Valley to be an amazing place to raise a family, it truly feels like a village. I feel really fortunate to call this place home.

BOOK YOU WOULD RECOMMEND?

Erika: ‘Lessons in Chemistry’ and ‘The Small and the Mighty’. Both books are a great reminder of the unlocked potential in each of us.

FAVORITE TRIP?

Rosemary: My dad’s 60th birthday in South Africa. It is such a magical place and you truly feel like you are in an episode of Planet Earth the whole time.
