For three generations, Modern Kitchen Center has innovated custom kitchen designs, offered premium brands, and reliably installed and serviced products at all levels of investment. Now they introduce a broad range of wardrobe design and installation.

Modern Kitchen Center established the local baseline for quality and service when Bill Slattery founded the Glenwood Springs company in 1974. Kitchens have changed. Now, they are efficient workspaces that inspire the senses with their beautiful designs and materials. The wide variety of styles, appliances, breathtaking surfaces and materials available today could not have been anticipated 34 years ago.

Still family-owned, Bill Slattery’s daughter Robin and husband Chris McComas are the current hands-on owners. Robin, a Certified Kitchen Designer, leads the design team, while Chris directs the installation crews and manages the nuts and bolts of the business. “We are small enough to personally commit to the quality and timeliness of our products and services, but large enough to have talented specialists with a background that includes design awards and skills for on- site collaboration to make a thought reality. We think we are the right size to uphold the principles upon which my dad founded the company: providing innovative design, premium products, and superior service,” Robin remarks.

The specialized design team works with clients (and their team of design professionals) building new homes, expanding and remodeling, and those just wanting to freshen up with an update. Their design process is client-driven. “At the beginning we discuss some key issues with the homeowners that leads to our better understanding of the style that appeals to them, the amenities they wish, schedule, and budget. We take measurements, and create a draft design with perspectives, elevations, and a floor plan. Once it’s exactly what the client wants, we take charge. We have the custom cabinets built, the products ordered, and our own people ensure installation,” explains Robin.

Modern Kitchen Center’s showroom offers customers the opportunity to personally explore the many possibilities open to them for their selections. For custom cabinets, they represent providers at various price points that offer all possible materials. This list includes Dutch Made, UltraCraft, Davis Mill & Cabinet, Bridgewood Custom Cabinetry, WW Wood Products, Adelphi Cabinetry, and Mid Continent Cabinetry.

Vendor selections are similarly broad for countertops, and the choices for materials range from soapstone, stone slab, quartz composite, solid surface, laminate, and recycled glass and concrete. Slattery’s eye for design and performance is evident in the appliances they carry: Sub-Zero, Whirlpool, KitchenAid, Wolf, ASKO, and Sharp.

The showroom also features their latest offering – Studio Becker Wardrobe Systems. “It is really a logical extension of listening to what our clients want and researching to find the best product line to serve their needs,” says Chris. He demonstrates the possibilities of the personalized system and how it works with foldable and personal items, shoes, slacks, valuables, laundry, and hanging clothes. “It is such exceptional quality.
