TANNER GLASS & Hardware

Jennie Tanner, Owner

“Installation of the products we sell has been our niche with the customers we service. It has become the industry standard for most residential builders to expect that the hardware and glass supplier installs the products they have provided. My father was a pioneer in the installation of door hardware going back to the early ‘70s.”

“One of the many things I love about owning my company is that I get to be innovative and find new products that complement what we already sell and I am constantly working on growing the business to leave a legacy for my family and my employees.

Shop Talk- Park City Glass and Hardware

“Custom home builders have very special needs for their clients and helping bring out their taste in style, finish, and design is important…we make sure they have plenty of choices.”
––Jennie Tanner, Owner

What services do you offer?
Not only do we fabricate and install the glass we provide for showers and mirrors for our customers, but we also install the door and bath hardware we provide from several manufacturers, whether it’s Rocky Mountain Hardware, Schlage, or BHP. We also fabricate and sell picture frames for artwork, photography, and mirrors and have a commercial glass department that has provided commercial glass storefronts for a variety of well-known businesses like New Balance, Smash Burger, Foot Locker, and many more national chains of retail operations.

What geographic area(s) do you serve?
We cover the Northern Utah area but have traveled to Idaho, Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, and Nevada to provide and install for our customers.

Do you have any special certifications or specialties?
I am the Secretary for PWB (Professional Women in Building), an entity of the NAHB, and we are building a home for the 2021 Utah County Parade of Homes that will be an all-women built/supplied home. I was the second graduating class in 2012 for the Salt Lake Chapter of Goldman Sachs 10K Small Businesses. I also attended the University of Utah for a minute.

What IS your professional background?
I have had several careers in my life, from flight attendant to land broker to entrepreneur. This is the one that suits me best, as a business owner and innovator, with the exception of being a mother of two beautiful and challenging daughters.

What inspires you?
Helping others succeed is what inspires me. Whether it is helping my employees better their lives, or a service project in my community, or helping educate young ladies who want to work in the construction industry, that is what makes me feel complete.

What project(s) are you most excited about right now?
My passion is the home we are building for the 2021 Utah County Parade of Homes. We plan to donate most of the proceeds for scholarships to help young women get into the construction industry. Not every kid is destined for college and I think there are a lot of very talented young women who would be great small-business owners and could put their talents to use in a field that would help replenish what was lost in the 2008 recession.

What other specialties do you have in-house?
Tanner Glass & Hardware is literally four businesses under one name. Finish hardware, residential glass, picture framing, and commercial glazing. We are an anomaly in our industry, especially in the fact that we install everything we sell.

What MAKES YOUR BUSINESS REALLY SPECIAL?
Attention to detail is something that has become our expectation. Follow-through and making sure the customer feels they are the most important customer is a dying quality in our industry. Our customers know that when they hire us to do their work they will get the best customer service and the best quality installation available.

What do you enjoy most about your line of work?
I love what I do, I love seeing my team succeed, I love to help my customers build their dreams. I love what I do, I really love what I do.

How did I get my start?
It was time for me to leave Atlanta after 10 years. I was ready to come home and my father owned a business that mirrored what we do today, just not as vast. He gave me a job and I started as a sales rep in the Park City area. Not knowing a doorknob from a doorstop, I gave it everything I had. My father has a very strong work ethic and I was fortunate that I get that from him and that I have the same drive to work hard and work smart.

If you weren’t in your field, what would you be doing?
Service is what I feel compelled to do now that I am old as dirt. If I could, I would build an assisted living center for the homeless to help get them on their feet and I would work in other service industries to help the less fortunate.

What do you enjoy most about living and working where you do?
I have traveled and lived in a lot of places and I really love the seasons in Utah. I appreciate that it is a really great place to raise children and there is so much to do here with winter skiing and summer hiking and everything in between. I love that my office is 20 minutes away and that I can be in the mountains in 30 minutes. It is a beautiful place to live.

Last book you read that you would highly recommend and why?
Oprah Winfrey’s What I Know for Sure is an easy read that I really love. I’m a Super Soul Sunday freak. I love to watch it; it’s my church.

Most Embarrassing Moment?
I have had so many embarrassing moments…Hell, I’m 57 years old.
